Georgians in China: NOW!
The Upchurch Family from our beautiful state of Georgia are currently in China to bring home their daughter Elizabeth. My friend Melissa let me know about their blog where you can follow their trip day by day. Click here to follow their journey. This will take your to Day 1: The family arriving in China. From there, you can click links on the left to continue the journey each day. It's cool and very exciting. When will it be this Georgian's turn?

The Adoption Desert
Well, it's a desert out there in Adoption Land. No new info., no rumors, no Rumor Queen, nada. The CCAA is on holiday this week for Chinese New Year. The Rumor Queen had to take an out of town job right after her referral (fishy) and so we have nothing out of her (but I have to be thankful for the year of information she gave me.) Eventually referrals will come. Perhaps even the RQ will come back to town & her computer. Until then we wait. I should be use to that!

Happy CHINESE New Year!
TRUTH: I know very little about Chinese culture. I have had the best of intentions to educate myself and the kids and even Todd about Chinese customs, traditions & culture. But I just haven't. Just like I haven't painted my kitchen or wallpapered my guest bathroom... I haven't started exercising or picked up my dry cleaning in 3 months... (but that's a whole other story... maybe a whole other blog!) And I go back & forth. Do I need to know a lot about Chinese culture? My family is German. My great-grandparents came right off the boat. My Grandmother's family spoke German when she was little. And I don't know much about German culture either. I certainly don't speak any German. I think it would be neat to learn all sorts of things about China... but what if Lilly thinks it's a drag? She will be an American girl... who happened to be born in China and who's birthparents are Chinese. If she wants, I'll teach her and show her anything I can about China. I'm one of those parents who is gonna let her take the lead on this. But until she can vocalize her desire I suppose I should be prepared and learn at least "the basics" of the country from which my newest daughter will come. Now the hard part... where to start???

YOU KNOW YOU'RE A MOM WHEN...
You can scrape throw-up off your bedroom carpet at 2:32 a.m. without throwing up yourself! It's nights like last night that I earn my "I'm really a MOM" badge. My kids have not been sick in a while... but the stomach flu that has been striking folks all around our little town finally came knocking on our door. Poor little Emmy was up all night... and me... and my Grandma's dog (who we're babysitting since my Gma is with my Gpa at Hospice.) Can you think of times when you said to yourself... if I wasn't this child's mother NO WAY could I stomach _______________??? Stay well everyone!

Fun New Friends!
Right after Christmas, Cris & Melissa Ward moved to LaGrange from Columbia, SC with their two daughters, Emilie & Leah, who were both born in China. Yesterday morning, the girls and I met Melissa and Leah for breakfast, while Tate and Emilie were at pre-school. The wait almost ended for me, 'cause I about scooped that precious child up and took her home. I apologized for Melissa for freaking Leah out... but she was so irresistable! Leah was the most photogenic child ever... anytime I pointed the camera at her she'd stop what she was doing... smile & say "cheeeese!" I'm so thankful that little 'ol LaGrange and the surrounding areas are beginning to have families like ours... families that will establish a community of girls just like Lilly.

WE'RE CREEPING CLOSER!!!
China is officially into matching the Fall of 2005. With a log in date of early January 2006, we are creeping closer to our referral... and I mean creeping! The CCAA continues to be consistent with matching approximately 2 weeks every month or so. With that staying true, we've got Nov. 13th, Dec. 13th and then little over 3 weeks until our LID of January 5th. So... that's at least 2, 4, 6 more months of waiting which puts us receiving a referral in the August batch. All of this is PURE SPECULATION and could go either way a month (and later) possibly two. (Thanks RQ for the DP update.)

Referrals are HERE!

It's not even my family getting our baby, but the days referrals start coming in are so exciting. Click HERE to go to the Rumor Queen site. Once there, you can click on the blogs she has listed to see referrals pictures from proud new parents! Many of you will see for the first time what a referral photo looks like and the type of information expectant families receive. Try it... IT'S FUN!
