This is cool!!!

I found this link to pictures of the CCAA Matching Room on RQ today.
I wonder on that wall of dossiers where ours is???
It's cool to see what goes on in the "inside!"

After being "regular attenders" at Covenant Pres. (OPC) for the past 18 months, we finally joined the church on Christmas Eve. Here we are after church with Pastor Boyd... the man couldn't be nicer! He and the congregation have been so faithful to pray for me (as an "expectant" mother) and for Lilly and her needs.
We are excited to "officially" be part of the Covenant Church Family!

What's Wrong

with This

This is the photo that graced the 2006 Johnson Family Christmas card. Do you notice something missing? Someone missing? IT'S LILLY!!! When I sent out Christmas cards last December we thought FOR SURE we'd have Lilly home long before Christmastime and I wondered and imagine what our card would look like with her in it... all cute & cuddly. But, as luck would have it, the cards went out and we still don't have our little Lilly home. Next Christmas, Lord willing.

There is a very interesting article on the FRONT PAGE of today's New York Times on-line edition. Click here to read. It explains all the buzz lately within the Chinese adoption community that the CCAA is going to implement new restrictions for prospective adoptive parents in order to cut down on the number of applicants. The Chinese maintain there are way more parents wanting babies than babies available. But then that opens up the discussion about the difference between "babies" and "paper ready babies." Anyway, it's very interesting and it answers a lot of questions from friends & family who cannot understand why we don't have our baby yet. This is why... supply vs. demand.

One year ago today.... December 14, 2005...
our precious packet of paperwork was in the mail heading for China! Yes, a year ago today we were DTC (Dossier To China.) At that time, we thought we would have Lilly home long before Christmastime... how a year changes things. I'm too scared to think that we'll have her home by next Christmas... don't want to jinx the current referral speed. But maybe, just maybe, we're beginning to see the faintest little light at the end of our tunnel.

What do you want first... the good news or the bad news?

Good news: Referrals are HERE!
Bad news: After rumors that the CCAA might have matched all of September 2005 families (or at least most of them) the cut-off this month is SEPTEMBER 8th, 2005. We got a lot more waiting to do!
CONGRATULATIONS to all the new parents out there!!!

According to the majority consensus on RQ, referrals have been mailed and phone calls should be coming in for families receiving referrals in the next couple days. For those who think I'm speaking in another language here's the low down...

Referral: When families receive a picture of their prospective child and basic facts about her/him... birthdate, location, weight, sleeping habits, etc. Families have known nothing about their baby before this time. Families usually have about 48 hours to officially accept or decline the baby referred to them by the CCAA. Travel to China to pick up the baby is running between 4-6 weeks after accepting a referral.

I have people ask me all the time if I know who my baby is or what she looks like or how old she is. None of us know... that's why referral day is so exciting... it's "meeting" your new baby for the first time. The unexciting part of this post is that we probably won't be expecting the stork to visit our house for another 9ish months!

The Race is ON!!!

Lilly has 2 cousins coming... like NOW!!! Nancy is currently waiting on a call from the hospital to come in for an induction (see Thanksgiving Turkey post... there was no turkey) and Amanda is off her labor stopping medication and off bedrest and is cramping! I bet those babies are born on the same day even though they were due a month apart! Continue to stay tuned......

A Thanksgiving Turkey???
Looks like we may be getting more than just turkey and dressing for Thanksgiving this year. Lilly's cousin Cohen is due to arrive ANY SECOND!!! Doesn't Aunt Nancy look fab for 40 weeks pregnant? Grampy was a "Thanksgiving Turkey", born on the day 57 years ago... will we have a repeat in 2006??? Stay tuned..........

Can it be???

LHS Class of '91

This weekend I attended my 15 Year High School Reunion. Have I really been out of high school for 15 years??? This is a picture of three of my best friends from high school... it was sooooo much fun to see them again. We still felt like we were in high school... and some of us (no names please) still acted like it! Thanks to Lilly, I won the award for "Most Children." Another girl and I tied with 3 kids each... but because I am "expecting"... I won!

O Whata Relief!!!
I woke up to some very happy news this morning. January has officially LEFT the Review Room... yippee! We were contacted by CAWLI several weeks ago because the CCAA wanted an updated copy of our US Immigration approval. I immediately faxed it to Boston and CAWLI faxed it to Beijing. They never asked us for any more information. It feels so good to be passed the final hurdle... "documentation wise." Our file now goes into another huge stack of dossiers waiting to go into the magical Matching Room! Today's news has definitely given me an emotional boost. This long and uncertain wait wears me down some days. But not today... today is a HAPPY DAY!

Happy Halloween 2006
Here are the three little "monsters" all ready for Trick-or-Treating on Halloween night. Featured are Carli as an angel, Tate as "The Hulk" and Emily as a bride. Wonder if Lilly will be home to trick-or-treat next October... or if we'll be in China???
